Approximate time: 1253
Weather Conditions: Clear

Contacted by Wayne’s Towing and Recovery requesting us to respond to Route 222 in the area of Butter Road to assist
them with a Ford Transit van that collided with the back end of a loaded tractor trailer.  We were advised that the loaded
trailer needed to be lifted off of the van so that the van could be winched out from underneath the tractor trailer.  We
were also advised that the roadway was blocked.

One of our heavy duty sliding rotator recovery units was immediately dispatched to the scene.  We were advised to
enter the scene from the 222 Northbound exit ramp to Butter Road.  We were advised to contact Wayne’s scene
supervisor upon arrival at the base of the ramp and that traffic would be stopped to allow us to enter the roadway from
the wrong direction due to the extreme backlog of traffic.

Once onscene, the rotator was set-up on a work platform.  Rigging was connected to the back end of the trailer.  The
tractor trailer was blocked to ensure the brakes held and the trailer did not move.   The rotator recovery unit then lifted
the back end of the loaded trailer.  Wayne’s was then able to winch the van backwards out from under the loaded
trailer.  Once the van was clear of the back of the trailer, the trailer was set back onto the ground.  The rigging was
removed and returned to its retrospective location.  The rotator was returned to travel position.  Our operator assisted
Wayne’s crew with sweeping the roadway and clearing  the scene of the vehicle parts and debris.

Traffic was again stopped so that all of the equipment could safely exit the highway via Butter Road.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE MANHEIM TOWNSHIP FIRE RESCUE, MANHEIM TOWNSHIP POLICE, AND WAYNE’S
TOWING AND RECOVERY FOR THE GREAT TEAMWORK ON THIS INCIDENT!  AS ALWAYS, IT IS GREATLY
APPRECIATED!
