Contacted to respond to Route 283 eastbound in the area of the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center to assist Wayne’s Towing & Recovery who was onscene with a Dodge pick up truck that had struck the center barrier, then crossed the roadway, struck the guardrail going airborne, through a fence, coming to rest in a wetland. The vehicle was reported to be in very close proximity to a creek. We were advised that the vehicle would need to be lifted out of the wetland, over top of the fence and over top of the guard rail, back onto the roadway.
Based upon the information we were given, one of our long reach sliding rotator recovery units were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rotator set-up on a work platform in the lane closure that had been put in place prior to our arrival. The rotator’s boom was extended, winch lines were lowered to the pick-up truck. The lines were connected to rigging that the W.T.R. had put in place prior to our arrival. The rigging was tensioned and checked for proper connections. The truck was then lifted out of the wetland and set directly onto the bed of one of W.T.R.’s rollbacks for transport from the scene. The rotator unhooked from the truck and was returned to travel position.
