Contacted to respond to Route 272 and Greenhouse Road for a loaded tractor trailer that was off the roadway and stuck in a field.  Based upon the information that was given, one of our heavy duty sliding rotator recovery units were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the fully loaded Kenworth tractor pulling a flatbed trailer hauling lumber was found to have left the roadway, went up an approximate 3′ high embankment and into the field.  The truck was mired to wheel depth and sustained damages from striking the embankment.  We were advised that a large farm tractor had attempted to pull the unit out and was unsuccessful.

Based upon the resistance required to recover the unit and the embankment it need to come back down, a heavy duty wrecker was dispatched to the scene. NR&SR was also requested to the scene to handle traffic control as the roadway would need to be partially blocked to recover the unit.

Once traffic control was set-up.  The rotator and the wrecker worked together to winch the unit back out of the field to the embankment.  Once the trailer started to transition down the embankment the rotator hold the trailer upright by preventing the cargo from shifting and the trailer overturning.  The unit was winched back onto the roadway.

The truck and trailer were then separated.  The heavy duty wrecker hooked to the rear of the tractor.  One of our tractors hooked to the trailer.  The truck and trailer were transported from the accident scene to Null’s of Cochranville where they were placed in our secure holding area for a DOT Inspection.
