Contacted to respond to Route 41 and Route 372 for a multiple vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer tanker truck that was overturned and leaking. Based upon the information we were given, three of our heavy duty sliding rotator recovery units, two rollbacks, and a tractor were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, Null’s Recovery & Site Restoration also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, we were advised by incident command that the Chester County HazMat team was enroute and we were requested to stand by until they arrived.

A Freightliner tractor pulling a cryogenic trailer had been involved in a collision with a sedan in the intersection. There was also a Jeep that was in the vapor cloud.

Upon arrival of the HazMat team, they made contact with a representative from the trucking company. We stood by for the arrival of the trucking company representatives. Once onscene, they advised they had another trailer enroute to transfer the product into.

We provided scene lighting for crews working onscene.

Once the replacement trailer arrived, it was confirmed that the trailer was already empty. We were then given the go ahead to begin the recovery. The Jeep and tanker were frozen to the roadway. The fire department sprayed water on the roadway to deice the situation.

Two of the rotators were moved into position, set-up on work platforms, and rigged to perform a control upright of the truck and trailer. The truck and trailer were slowly lifted back to an upright position and gently set back onto it’s wheels. One of the rotators then picked the front of the tractor and rotated into position that it could be hooked up to be towed from the scene. All of the rigging was removed and returned to its respective location. The rotators were returned to travel position. One of the rotators hooked to the front of the tractor and prepared to tow it from the scene. The truck and trailer were separated. Our tractor hooked to the trailer.

Our team assisted NR&SR with getting the roadway in to condition to be reopened to traffic. The damaged vehicles were transported from the accident scene to Null’s of Cochranville where they were placed in our secure storage yard.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE CHRISTIANA AND KEYSTONE VALLEY FIRE DEPARTMENTS, CHRISTIANA/ATGLEN POLICE DEPARTMENT, CHESTER COUNTY HAZMAT TEAM, AND THE MUTUAL AID FIRE POLICE AGENCIES FOR ALL OF THEIR HELP WITH SCENE SAFETY AND TRAFFIC CONTROL THROUGHOUT THIS INCIDENT!
